Find the Best League Fit for Your Player!

Our core fall/winter youth basketball programming consists of three broad and inclusive levels. In the spring and summer, we offer a variety of off-season leagues and camps to help kids keep developing their games! Our comprehensive K-8 program is built upon these three levels:

Beginner Leagues The youngest and more inexperienced grade K-3 learners

Intermediate Leagues Grade 3-8 players ready for competition and a moderate time commitment

Travel Teams Grade 3-8 players ready for competition and an extensive time commitment

See below for more details about each level.

Beginner Leagues

  • K-1 Coed
  • Grade 2-3 Girls
  • Grade 2-3 Boys

Every player needs a solid base, and our K-3 program is designed to build key skills and game knowledge. At this level, we meet once or twice per week (depending upon gym availability) and practice at lowered hoops to enhance success. Each grade level uses a mixture of group and individual skill development and instruction. After a few weeks of practice, we move to 3v3 game play.

Intermediate Leagues

  • Grade 3-8 Girls
  • Grade 3-8 Boys

Our Intermediate YMCA Leagues are designed for players with a firm grasp of the fundamentals and readiness for moderate competition. There are no tryouts or evaluations, and teams are established by school attendance area (play with your friends!) as much as possible, practice once a week and play one or two games on Friday nights or Saturdays in Madison or Sun Prairie. WIAA rules and referees are used. The schedule includes around 10 regular season games and an end-of-season tournament. A jersey is included.

YMCA Intermediate Leagues are good options for kids and families looking for a more moderate time commitment and minimal travel. Caregivers can decide if their 3rd graders are ready for more than our grade 3 Beginner program offers.

Travel Teams

  • Grade 3-8 Girls
  • Grade 3-8 Boys

Travel Basketball is an option for players who have played a significant amount of organized basketball and developed beyond the basic fundamentals. Travel Basketball is a greater time commitment than Intermediate teams as players practice twice per week and will play multiple games on weekends. Full uniforms are included with travel programs.
